Welcome, Laurie!

We are very excited to introduce you to our newest member of MGBookVillage, Laurie Hnatiuk! Laurie will be familiar to many of you, as she’s an active participant in our weekly MGBookChats (she’s the one currently in charge of archiving the chats for us), and well as other Village related activities. She’ll be taking over the MG Release Date Calendar and jumping right into the swing of things with us. We hope you’ll give her a very warm welcome!

Laurie Hnatiuk is happily married to her husband Tony (32 years) and has two adult children, her son Andrew (26) and her daughter Brodie (22) and their cat Kato (12).

Her experience being a homeroom teacher in grades 1-7 led her to her dream job of being a teacher librarian, until June of 2019, when she retired from the Saskatoon School Division.  In her words, “Being a teacher librarian is the best job in a school because it is the only position where you get to read and learn with everyone.” Even though recently retired, Laurie is still passionate about reading, sharing and getting books into the hands of readers.

She is a current reader and reviewer of the Saskatchewan Young Readers’ Choice Awards (SYRCA) for the Shining Willow Awards (picture books for grades K-3). She also belongs to the Canadian #bookportage group, consisting of teachers, librarians and authors who read and review ARCs and newly released middle grade books.
